New Year's Eve and New Year's Day

Christmas in Valencia, from December to Three Kings

The city's Christmas season starts in late November when the lights are switched on in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and the streets stay lit until 6 January. The busiest days for plans are the early-December bank holiday weekend, the school holidays, New Year's Eve and the eve of Three Kings' Day.

New Year's Eve in Plaza del Ayuntamiento

On 31 December, Plaza del Ayuntamiento is the city's meeting point: in the morning there's a children's countdown with entertainment for the little ones, and at night a party with live music that builds up to the twelve chimes at midnight and carries on afterwards. It's free and outdoors.

The Three Kings parade

On the afternoon of 5 January the Three Wise Men arrive in Valencia and ride through the centre in the Cabalgata, on a route that passes Porta de la Mar, Plaza de la Reina and Calle San Vicente before reaching Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The exact time and route are published each year a few days beforehand.

Plans with kids during the holidays

Between late December and early January, Feria València hosts Expojove, the Christmas holiday fair for children and teenagers, and the centre adds an ice rink, a little train and a carousel. Workshops, storytelling and family shows for those days appear above as soon as they're announced.

Markets and seasonal treats

At Christmas, craft and gift markets pop up in the centre and in the neighbourhoods, and the Mercado de Colón puts up its festive decorations. On the table you'll find turrón (nougat), cava and, on 6 January, the roscón de Reyes (Three Kings' cake).
