Carmen in Flamenco Style
Ballet Flamenco Barcelona (BFB) brings its version of Carmen to Valencia, a show that reinterprets the classic by Prosper Mérimée and the music of Georges Bizet through flamenco. Scheduled for 29 December 2026 at Teatre Talia, this production is part of the Panorama Flamenco - Especial Navidad cycle and aims to connect with contemporary audiences through a narrative exploring pain, passion, and freedom.
The Artistic Proposal
Led by principal dancers David Gutiérrez and Judith Martín, the company offers a reading that goes beyond traditional adaptation. The work delves into the relationship between Carmen and the bullfighter Escamillo, incorporating choreographic and musical elements that engage with today’s society. Bizet’s music blends with flamenco styles like seguiriya and bulería, while Yann Patrick’s lighting enhances the dramatic atmosphere.
The cast includes Sofia Cipoletta, Carmen Orts, Mar Sánchez, Carlos Ruiz (dancers), Joel de Pepa (voice), and Iban Pérez and Jordi Centeno (guitars).
