When to visit Valencia: weather and festivals month by month

The best time to visit Valencia is April to June and mid-September to October: highs of 21 to 28 °C, plenty of sunshine and the sea already warm from June. July and August are beach months, with average highs of 31 °C and high humidity. March brings the Fallas, and winter is mild, with 16 °C highs in January according to AEMET.

Spring (March–May): the most pleasant season

Highs of 19 to 24 °C, long days and the city in bloom. March opens with the Fallas, which fill the city with crowds and noise from 1 to 19 March, especially from the 15th to the 19th. April and May are perfect for walking around the centre and the Turia gardens; the sea is still cool for swimming.

Summer (June–August): beach, heat and long nights

This is beach season: the water goes from 23 °C in June to 27 °C in August and it barely rains. The heat is humid, with average highs around 31 °C and peaks above 35 °C during heatwaves. Plan sightseeing for the morning and evening and keep midday for the beach or an air-conditioned museum. The night of Sant Joan (23 June) and the Battle of Flowers at the July Fair are the big moments.

Autumn (September–November): warm sea and fewer crowds

September still feels like summer and the sea is at its best (25 °C), with far fewer visitors than in August. It's also the rainy season: September and October are the wettest months of the year and gota fría (DANA) episodes sometimes bring torrential rain within a few hours. It's no reason not to come, but check AEMET's warnings and follow Civil Protection advice if there's an alert.

Winter (December–February): mild and sunny

With highs of 16–17 °C and about 170 hours of sunshine a month, Valencia's winter is among the mildest in Europe. It's a good time for museums, the old town and the food, with lower prices. Nights are cool (5–6 °C lows), so bring a jacket. Christmas and the Three Kings parade (5 January) liven up the city.

Visitor numbers and accommodation prices peak during the Fallas (especially 15–19 March), Easter, July and August and long weekends. For good weather with fewer crowds, the best windows are late April, May, the second half of September and October.
