What the exhibition proposes
'Un vacío en Nueva York' is an artistic project by Silvia Martí Marí that stems from a family loss to delve into the history of hundreds of Valencians who emigrated to the United States in the early 20th century. The exhibition addresses two dimensions: the intimate, focused on the artist’s personal memory, and the collective, broadening the perspective to a shared yet scarcely documented experience. Through documents, objects, and images, the show establishes connections between times and narratives, challenging historical linearity and giving voice to silences and absences.
Structure and content
The exhibition is divided into two rooms. The first room focuses on Martí Marí’s family history, while the second expands the narrative to a collective perspective, exploring Valencian migration to New York. The artist invites reflection on reparation, tribute, and the healing of a memory that has remained in the shadows until now. The exhibition encourages visitors to engage with the uncertainties of the archive and to listen to what still lingers in objects and documents.
Opening hours and access
The exhibition will be open to the public from 6 October to 6 December 2026 at the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània. The opening event will take place on 6 October at 19:00. Admission is free and no prior booking is required.
