What Marianeta is About
Marianeta is a tragicomedy created by Valencian artist Yolanda Gómez, delving into the complex relationship between a mother and her daughter. The protagonist, an apparently docile girl, grows up under her mother’s influence, who controls every move as if she were a puppet. The play uses a stage universe dominated by invisible strings to explore, with dark humour, the thin line between protection and possession, and education and control. It leaves an uncomfortable question: to what extent do we own our own voice?
Who Created the Play
Yolanda Gómez, a Valencian creator, is behind this theatrical proposal. Her work is known for tackling family and social themes with a critical eye, yet without sacrificing tenderness and irony.
