Gigante: A Bold Portrait of Roald Dahl in Valencia
From 2 to 8 December 2026, Teatro Olympia in Valencia will host Gigante, a theatrical production that won 3 Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best Play. Starring José María Pou, the show arrives directly from London’s West End to offer a fascinating, uncomfortable, and brilliant portrayal of the iconic writer Roald Dahl, creator of classics like Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Witches.
Synopsis
Gigante explores the moments when Dahl nearly lost his fame due to controversial statements. Directed by Josep Maria Mestres, the play combines drama and reflection to reveal the man behind the myth. The production features meticulous staging, with set design by Sebastià Brosa, costumes by Nidia Tusal, lighting by Ignasi Camprodon, and sound design by Jordi Bonet.
The cast includes, alongside Pou, Victòria Pagès, Pep Planas, Clàudia Benito, Aida Llop, and Jep Barceló, with a script by Mark Rosenblatt and translation by José María Pou.
