What’s on stage
«SC_ Santa Cultura» is a 55-minute contemporary dance solo that questions culture as a belief system, drawing parallels with religion. Created and performed by Ángela Verdugo, the piece begins with an intimate moment: a feverish dancer reflecting on her craft while interacting with a roll of toilet paper. The work blends historical and personal references, with the Sackler family—linked to the opioid crisis—as a symbol of the contradictions between art and power. The text and dramaturgy are by Verdugo and Xavier Puchades, with choreographic support from Rocío Pérez.
Who creates and performs it
The direction, choreography, and performance are by Ángela Verdugo, a Valencian dancer and creator. The text and dramaturgical coordination are by Xavier Puchades, while Rocío Pérez contributes to the choreography. Lighting and spatial design are yet to be confirmed. The Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) produces the piece as part of its Valencian creation programme at Teatro Rialto.
