What the conference analyses
The conference "La psicopolítica del (primer) franquismo" examines the social and psychological control mechanisms the Franco regime deployed during its early decades. According to the Universitat de València, the event focuses on how the State used ideological, educational, and healthcare tools to shape collective subjectivity and consolidate its power. The analysis includes references to public policies, curricula, and scientific discourses of the time, documented in research such as that by Enric Novella.
Who is giving the talk
The speaker is Enric Novella, Professor of History of Science at the Universitat de València and researcher at the Instituto Interuniversitario López Piñero. Novella has published studies on the construction of subjectivity during the Franco regime, including his article "Subjetividad y control social en el primer franquismo" (2016), which explores the role of medicine and psychology in legitimising the regime. His approach links history, science, and politics to explain how control was exercised over the population.
