What is «La orquesta de cartón»
«La orquesta de cartón» is a participatory workshop created by artist Mònica Rius that transforms simple materials—cardboard, geometric pieces, and electronic elements—into a collective sound installation. Participants construct visual and sound patterns using thousands of identical pieces, shaping an ephemeral landscape where art, play, and technology merge. Designed for all ages, the activity requires no prior knowledge: each participant contributes their creativity to the final piece, which is dismantled at the end of the session.
How the workshop unfolds
The activity lasts 90 minutes and is structured in two phases. In the first, attendees explore the plastic and sound possibilities of cardboard pieces, creating geometric compositions on the floor of the exhibition space. In the second phase, basic electronic components—such as sensors or LED lights—are introduced to add interactivity to the ensemble. The result is a visual and sound "orchestra" that evolves based on the group’s decisions. According to CaixaForum, the workshop encourages collaboration and spatial thinking, drawing inspiration from concepts like domestic cinema, where the audience is also the creator.
Schedule and access
The workshop is offered in a single session at 10:00 AM from Monday to Friday, with limited capacity. Admission costs 4 € per person, though school groups pay a flat fee of 25 € per booking. There is no minimum age, but it is recommended for children aged 6 and up accompanied by an adult. Cardboard pieces and electronic materials are provided by the venue; no need to bring anything.
