What you’ll visit
«L’IVAM trobat» is a guided tour of Gallery 8 (Wall Room) at IVAM Centre Julio González, where 70 metres of Valencia’s medieval wall—built in the 14th century and declared a Site of Cultural Interest—are preserved. Archaeologist José Ferrandis, one of the experts behind its restoration, explains the construction techniques of Valencian tapia (rammed earth) and the archaeological findings that have reinterpreted this defensive section. The room also currently hosts the exhibition «Pinazo: identitats», featuring over 300 works by the Valencian painter, though the tour focuses on the architectural heritage.
Who guides the tour
The tour is led by José Ferrandis, an archaeologist, PhD in Architecture, and researcher of Valencian heritage. Ferrandis has contributed to the wall’s comprehensive restoration and teaches on the Master’s in Heritage at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). His approach blends historical rigour with accessible storytelling, highlighting the connection between IVAM and the city’s medieval legacy.
