Irma la Dulce at the Valencian Film Library

The Edificio Rialto hosts a special screening of Irma la Dulce (Irma la Douce, 1963), the romantic comedy directed by Billy Wilder, on 30 October 2026. This classic of American cinema will be shown in a 35 mm print and in a Spanish-dubbed version, produced in Mexico by the SISSA-Oruga studio. The screening, part of the Valencian Film Library’s programme, lasts 140 minutes.

Plot and cast

The story follows Nestor Patou (Jack Lemmon), a naive Parisian police officer who, after being posted to Montmartre, discovers the world of prostitution and falls in love with Irma (Shirley MacLaine), a sharp and charismatic sex worker. To keep her away from her trade, Nestor invents an alter ego: a wealthy Englishman who becomes her only client. Their relationship takes a chaotic turn with the arrival of Sergeant Albert (Walter Matthau), a white-collar thief who adds humour and disorder to the plot. The cast also includes Lou Jacobi (as the waiter Moustache), Bruce Yarnell (the pimp Hippolyte), and Hope Holiday (Lolita), among others.
