What’s being screened in this session
The «Creadors i criatures» cycle presents «Las mujeres de Stepford» (The Stepford Wives, 1975), directed by Bryan Forbes. The film, an adaptation of Ira Levin’s novel of the same name, explores the creation of artificial women in an apparently idyllic suburb, where husbands replace their wives with submissive replicas. A psychological thriller and science fiction film, it reflects on control, gender, and autonomy through a social critique that remains relevant today.
Who will discuss the film
Each screening in the cycle includes a presentation and post-screening debate led by Teresa Sorolla (Universitat Jaume I de Castelló) and Carlos Cuéllar (Universitat de València). Both professors analyse the theme of artificial life in cinema from philosophical, technological, and gender perspectives, contextualising each work within the cycle. The 3 November session will focus on how «Las mujeres de Stepford» addresses the rebellion of creatures against their creators.
Timing and access
The screening will take place on 3 November 2026 at 17:00 in the Saló d’Actes of the Museu de Belles Arts in Valencia. The film will be shown in its original version with subtitles, and admission is free, with no prior booking required. The cycle is aimed at an adult audience, particularly students, cinema professionals, and those interested in the intersection of technology, philosophy, and art.
