What’s being screened
«El techo amarillo» is a documentary by Isabel Coixet, produced in Spain in 2022, with a runtime of 94 minutes. The film is based on a real case: in 2018, nine women reported two of their teachers from the Aula de Teatro de Lleida for sexual abuse suffered between 2001 and 2008, when they were teenagers. The complaint was filed after the statute of limitations had expired, and the case was dismissed. Coixet gathers the testimonies of these women and traces the journey of a process that received no judicial response.
What is the Cinema and Human Rights Cycle
The Cinema and Human Rights Cycle is one of the most established cultural initiatives by Amnesty International València, organised in collaboration with the Universitat de València’s Aula de Cinema. Now in its sixteenth edition, the cycle has spent over a decade using cinema as a tool for raising awareness and fostering debate on human rights.
Post-film discussion
Screenings in the cycle typically conclude with a discussion featuring experts—university lecturers, journalists, activists, lawyers, or NGO members—to analyse the political, legal, and social context of each film. The audience is also invited to join the debate, which is particularly relevant in this case, focused on the statute of limitations for sexual abuse crimes.
