What is the William Parker Trio
The William Parker Trio is an avant-garde jazz ensemble led by double bassist William Parker (Bronx, New York, 1952), a key figure in contemporary jazz and free improvisation. With over 150 albums recorded as a leader and six published books, Parker is renowned for his innovation and influence on generations of musicians. For this concert, the trio is completed by Assif Tsahar on saxophone and Hamid Drake on drums, both icons of the experimental scene.
The trio’s repertoire is based on collective improvisation, exploring free sounds and open structures that dialogue with modern jazz, free jazz, and creative music. According to Jimmy Glass, the concert is part of the festival’s own production, dedicated to Traffic, a project Parker has developed in recent years.
