What is the tatreez workshop and what will be embroidered
The «Tatreez: Palestinian embroidery» workshop is a five-session cycle introducing participants to traditional Palestinian embroidery (tatreez), its history, and its symbolic significance in Palestinian culture. Over the sessions, participants will work on a collective piece inspired by artists Sliman Mansour and Nabill Anani, key figures in contemporary Palestinian art. The project links craftsmanship with reflections on resistance and the identity of the Palestinian people under occupation, using embroidery as a tool for expression and solidarity.
Dates, schedule, and duration
The workshop consists of five sessions, each lasting 150 minutes (2.5 hours), with the following schedule:
- 21 January 2026 (first session, 17:30).
- 4 and 18 February 2026.
- 4 and 25 March 2026.
Sessions are free, but prior registration is required by emailing escorxador.actividades@gmail.com (or aescorxador.actividades@gmail.com).
Requirements and access
The workshop is open to adults aged 18+. No prior embroidery experience is needed: the activity is designed for beginners and those interested in exploring the cultural meaning of tatreez. Registration is mandatory due to limited capacity.
Goals and approach
The cycle offers a «journey through the geography of Palestinian embroidery», focusing on the West Bank and occupied territories. Beyond technique, the workshop aims to create a space for collective reflection on the resilience of the Palestinian people, using art as a means of connection and protest. The final piece will be a symbolic gesture of support, created collaboratively by all participants.
