What is Sons del Cabanyal
Sons del Cabanyal is a staged concert by Sociedad Musical Poblados Marítimos that recreates the history and cultural heritage of Valencia’s Cabanyal, a maritime neighbourhood, through music. The repertoire includes original compositions and adaptations of traditional Valencian themes with contemporary arrangements, structured in a narrative arc that evokes its fishing past and most emblematic festivals. According to TEM’s programme, the show lasts 65 minutes and combines live music with a staging that encourages audience participation in its festive finale.
Programme and theme
The concert is structured around three axes: the historical memory of Cabanyal (with pieces inspired by its maritime and fishing traditions), its popular celebrations (such as the Fiestas de la Naval or Carnival), and its urban transformation. Each work is selected to reflect a specific aspect of the neighbourhood, from streets like Calle del Progreso or Calle de la Reina to landmarks like the old shipyards. Sociedad Musical Poblados Marítimos, the event’s organiser, highlights that the project aims to «recover and promote the intangible cultural heritage» of Cabanyal, blending tradition with new artistic expressions.
