Mozart in the Main Hall of Palau de les Arts
La clemenza di Tito, the last opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, comes to the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in a production directed by Stefano Montanari (music) and Rafael R. Villalobos (stage). Premiered in 1791, the work explores power, betrayal, and clemency through the figure of Emperor Titus, transposing the action to the cinematic universe of Cinecittà in the 1940s.
Villalobos’ stage proposal reflects how cinema was used to construct a narrative of imperial grandeur, while Montanari balances dramatic tension with the beauty of Mozart’s score.
