On 4 December 2026, Sala Iturbi at the Palau de la Música de València will host a symphonic concert dedicated to two pillars of the Classical era: Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Under the baton of maestro Christophe Rousset, the Orquesta de València will perform a programme featuring some of the most iconic works by both composers.
Concert Programme
The repertoire includes:
- C. P. E. Bach: Symphony in D major, Wq 183/1, H. 663.
- Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 82 in C major, Hob. I:82, known as "L’Ours" (The Bear).
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture to "La Clemenza di Tito" and Symphony No. 41 in C major, KV 551, "Jupiter", his final symphony and one of the most celebrated in history.
This concert is part of the symphonic subscription series for the season, though individual tickets will also be available once sales open. The exact date for ticket releases and pricing has not yet been confirmed.
Christophe Rousset at the Helm
French conductor and harpsichordist Christophe Rousset, a renowned specialist in Baroque and Classical music, returns to Valencia to lead the Orquesta de València. Rousset, founder of Les Talens Lyriques, is a leading figure in historically informed performance, bringing a unique perspective to this programme.
A Tribute to Viennese Classicism
The pairing of Haydn and Mozart in a single concert offers a chance to appreciate the evolution of the symphonic style in the 18th century. While Haydn’s Symphony No. 82 represents the maturity of early Classicism, Mozart concludes the programme with his "Jupiter" Symphony, a work that foreshadows Romanticism and stands out for its technical and emotional complexity.
