What to expect
The David Murray Quartet brings to Valencia their latest work, Birdly Serenade, an album that encapsulates Murray’s evolution from the free jazz of his early days—drawing influences from Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, and Archie Shepp—to a more diverse and nuanced style. The 90-minute performance, without intermission, will showcase this album live, featuring Murray’s tenor saxophone in dialogue with George Burton’s piano, Luke Stewart’s double bass, and Russell Carter’s drums.
Who’s performing
David Murray (Oakland, 1955), a key figure in contemporary jazz and New York resident, leads the quartet. Known for his versatility and ability to blend tradition with avant-garde, Murray is joined by three standout musicians from today’s improvisational jazz scene: pianist George Burton, double bassist Luke Stewart, and drummer Russell Carter. According to Jimmy Glass’s programming, the group will perform Birdly Serenade in its entirety, their most recent production.
