What the conference covers
The conference «Conservation and Restoration of Historical-Artistic Textile Heritage» explores the work of the Real Fábrica de Tapices in preserving historical textiles, one of Spain’s most important institutions dedicated to this heritage. The session, on Tuesday 24 November 2026 at 19:00 at the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia, will focus on particularly delicate pieces: tapestries, carpets, wall hangings, embroidery, banners, garments, and other antique fabrics.
According to the event description, conserving such works requires combining traditional textile craftsmanship with rigorous scientific criteria and cutting-edge technology. This balance between artisanal tradition and technical method is the core theme of the event.
Who is leading the conference
The conference will be delivered by Alejandro Klecker de Elizalde, General Director of the Real Fábrica de Tapices, and Verónica García Blanco, Director of Textile Conservation and Restoration at the institution. Both speakers bring perspectives from institutional management and hands-on restoration work.
The session is coordinated by Vicente de Castro, a trustee of the Fundación Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia, who will moderate the discussion.
