What’s on offer
The concert «Y desdichada yo que en mar incierto...» brings back the voices of Castilian Renaissance poetesses—such as Florencia Pinar, Luisa Sigea, and Leonor de la Cueva—through madrigals, villancicos, and romances set to music by composers of the era. The programme includes works by Josquin des Prez, Francisco Guerrero, Juan Bautista Comes, and Girolamo Caccini, performed on period instruments like the Renaissance traverso flute.
According to Palau de la Música, the repertoire explores themes of love, melancholy, and the female condition, featuring 16th-century Spanish texts rarely heard in concert. Soprano Carmen Botella blends singing and recitation to breathe life into these verses, accompanied by the ensemble Piacere dei Traversi, specialists in early music.
Who’s performing
The concert is led by Carmen Botella (soprano and reciter) and the ensemble Piacere dei Traversi, featuring Laura Palomar, Elisabet Segura, and Marisa Esparza (Renaissance traverso flutes). Botella, known for her work in reviving forgotten repertoires, heads this project as part of the Cambra al Palau (20) cycle, celebrating its 20th edition.
Based in Valencia, Piacere dei Traversi focuses on historically informed performances of Renaissance and Baroque music, using replicas of period instruments. For this programme, their flute-only formation—without keyboard or strings—aims to recreate the intimate sound of the courts and salons where these works premiered.
Programme and duration
The concert lasts approximately 75 minutes without intermission, featuring a programme that alternates vocal and instrumental works. Highlights include:
- Madrigals by Josquin des Prez and Thomas Morley, with texts by anonymous poetesses.

Palau de la Música notes that the programme order may vary, but all works are tied to female authors or Renaissance themes. No printed booklet is provided; audiences can follow the texts on the side screen in Sala Rodrigo.
