Who’s Performing
Carmen Linares, a flamenco singer born in Linares (Jaén) in 1951, presents a concert in Valencia to mark the 30th anniversary of her album Antología de la mujer en el cante (1996), regarded as one of the ten best flamenco albums of all time. A key figure in the genre alongside Camarón, Paco de Lucía, and Enrique Morente, Linares will perform the 27 cantes she revived in this work, originally created or popularised by cantaoras such as La Niña de los Peines and Tía Marina Fesol. She is joined by guitarists Salvador Gutiérrez and Edu Espín, backing vocalists Ana María González and Rosario Amador, and Miguel Espín Pacheco as artistic coordinator.
What’s Being Performed
The concert is a live revisit of Antología de la mujer en el cante, an album paying homage to the great female voices of flamenco over a century and a half. The performance includes all 27 styles—soleás, bulerías, tangos, and seguiriyas—that Linares rescued for this project, accompanied by flamenco guitar and handclaps. Known for her mastery of traditional palos, the singer has also reinterpreted poets like Federico García Lorca and Miguel Hernández in other works.
Context of the Series
The concert is part of Els Concerts a la Fundació, a series organised by Fundación Bancaja in collaboration with Pavasal, now in its tenth edition (September 2026–March 2027). Linares shares the lineup with artists such as Israel Galván, Rafael Riqueni, and Tim Ries, blending flamenco, jazz, and classical music.
