Music, theatre and live sand art
Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía adapts the suite Pictures at an Exhibition (1874) by Russian composer Modest Músorgski in Arenas Musicales, a show blending classical music, storytelling and ephemeral art. The original work, inspired by ten drawings by architect Viktor Hartmann, comes to life on stage with a piano performance of the score and live recreations of each scene through sand drawings.
An actor guides the audience through the ten musical pieces, while an artist draws in sand the images described by the music. The production is aimed at families and seeks to bring classical music to all audiences without losing the essence of Músorgski’s composition.
