What it is
«Antonio Machado, Villa Amparo i Rocafort» is a session dedicated to poet Antonio Machado’s stay in Rocafort, presented by Enric Albiach and María Delgado at HUB Cultural Cabanyal. It is part of the cultural agenda of Poblats Marítims, organised by Cultura Cabanyal, and is scheduled for 20 November at 19:00 with free admission.
What is Villa Amparo
Villa Amparo is an early 20th-century neoclassical chalet with extensive gardens, where Antonio Machado resided in Rocafort, according to the Rocafort Town Council. The house is now publicly owned, and the Generalitat Valenciana has begun its restoration with an investment of €1.77 million to transform it into a cultural space.
The site preserves other traces of the poet. The Red de Ciudades Machadianas notes that in 1979, the Associació Cultural de Rocafort placed a plaque at the villa’s entrance during an event where Vicent Andrés Estellés read poems. In 2014, a sculpture of Machado, based on a sketch by Ramón Gaya and funded by local residents, was installed in front of the house along the promenade covering the Acequia Real de Moncada.
