How to request the Metrovalencia lift remote control
If using a lift's button panel is difficult or impossible for you — because of paralysis, an amputation or any disability affecting the upper limbs — FGV has a little-known solution: a radio-frequency remote that calls and operates the lifts at 16 stations without touching anything. It was designed with COCEMFE as part of FGV's Universal Accessibility Plan and takes a single visit to arrange. Here is exactly how.

What it is and who it serves
The remote is a personal, non-transferable handheld device with four keys engraved with high-contrast tactile pictograms: up, down, a direct-link key to the lift's emergency intercom and, at Colón station, the 'INT' key for the mezzanine level. It works by radio frequency: being near the lift is enough to call it and command the movement.
It is designed for people with severe reduced mobility in the upper limbs, although anyone with an accredited disability that prevents them from using the button panel can apply. The emergency button places an automatic voice call if you get trapped or the lift fails.
How to apply, step by step

Duplicate lifts: the lesson of Colón
A broken lift turns an 'accessible' station into a genuine barrier: if there is only one per level, there is no plan B. At Colón, a major underground interchange, FGV duplicated the lifts for exactly that reason: there is always at least one working lift per level. That is the standard we are calling for across the network, starting with interchanges that still have a single lift per floor.
And on board: 62 adapted trains
FGV and Stadler refurbished the 62 metro units in service (€3.2 million) to make the door nearest the driver's cab accessible: an opening button at accessible height that is easy to press from inside and outside, driver-controlled forced opening so you have time to board without risk of getting caught, and light and sound alerts for the door cycle across the refurbished fleet. Many stations also have rubber platform-edge fillers that narrow the gap to the train.
