When Halloween is celebrated in Valencia

Halloween is the night of 31 October, the eve of All Saints' Day. In Valencia the programme doesn't stop at that one night: parties, haunted houses and children's activities usually start the weekend before and run until 1 November, the All Saints' Day public holiday, and 2 November, All Souls' Day. That's why this page covers plans from mid-October to 2 November.

Nit de les Ànimes, the Valencian eve

Before Halloween caught on, in many Valencian towns the night of 31 October into 1 November was the Nit de les Ànimes (Night of the Souls), devoted to remembering the dead. Some towns are reviving it in their own way: in Foios, the 2025 edition had a costume parade with traditional tabal and dolçaina music, a snack of roast chestnuts and pumpkin, and a haunted tunnel built by the local drama school.

Benimàmet's Festa de la Carabassa

Every autumn, just before All Saints' Day, the market gardens of Campanar and Benimàmet hold the Festa de la Carabassa (Pumpkin Festival): an afternoon in Plaça Lluís Cano in Benimàmet with a display of local pumpkins, storytelling and a community snack. It's the home-grown answer to the Halloween pumpkin, and Benimàmet has its own metro station.

What people eat for All Saints'

The sweets of the season are the All Saints' ones: buñuelos de viento (light fritters) and huesos de santo (marzipan 'saints' bones') in bakeries and pastry shops, and roast chestnuts and sweet potatoes, which return to street stalls with the first cool days of autumn.

Haunted houses around Valencia

Many towns in the metropolitan area put on their own haunted house or horror tunnel around 31 October, often free and with separate sessions for children and adults: in 2025 there were ones in Picassent, Alaquàs, Paterna and Sueca, among others. They're announced only a few days ahead, so it's worth checking this page again in the last week of October.
