On 10 June 2027, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía presents a symphonic concert under the baton of Vasily Petrenko, principal conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The programme features two masterpieces: Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV 550, one of his most celebrated compositions, and Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem Don Quixote, Op. 35, where the cello—performed by Pablo Ferrández—takes centre stage as the Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance.
Petrenko, renowned for his work with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Leipzig Gewandhaus, leads the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) in a concert that contrasts Mozart’s balanced classicism with the rich timbres of Strauss’s late Romanticism. Ferrández, the guest soloist, returns to Les Arts following his success in the previous season with Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
