The Fairy Queen in Valencia
On 14 February 2027, the Palau de la Música de València will host one of the masterpieces of English Baroque: The Fairy Queen, a semi-opera by Henry Purcell (Z. 629). Composed in 1692, this work blends music, dance, and theatre, inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The version performed in Valencia will be by Gabrieli Consort & Players, an ensemble specialising in early music, under the baton of British conductor Paul McCreesh, whose acclaimed 2019 recording of this work has been praised by critics.
The concert is part of the Palau’s symphonic subscription series for the 2026-2027 season, celebrating its 40th anniversary. Sala Iturbi will host this production, with an estimated duration of 2 hours and 20 minutes, including intervals.

The Fairy Queen is a semi-opera in five acts, where Purcell’s music—featuring arias, choruses, and instrumental pieces—intertwines with spoken scenes and dances.
