On 20 May 2027, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will host a symphonic concert conducted by Sir Mark Elder, featuring the Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana (OCV). The programme, focused on Russian composers, includes three key works:
- Stravinsky: Scherzo à la russe, a short piece with jazz influences and energetic rhythm, composed during the Second World War.
- Shostakovich: Symphony No. 9, an ironic work that, beneath an apparently light tone, hides a critique of the Soviet regime.
- Tchaikovsky: Selections from The Sleeping Beauty, featuring waltzes, adagios, and dances that highlight its orchestral brilliance.
The concert is part of Sir Mark Elder’s Spanish tour. Elder is the conductor of the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester and is renowned for his interpretations of the symphonic repertoire.
