What’s being screened
«Queen Kelly» (Queen Kelly, 1929) is a silent film directed by Erich von Stroheim, one of the most controversial filmmakers of classic Hollywood. Starring Gloria Swanson, the film tells the story of a young novice in a European convent who is seduced by an African prince. The Valencia Film Archive revives this unfinished work—Stroheim was fired during filming—to present its restored version, with original intertitles and live or recorded music, depending on the cycle’s programme.
Who’s behind it
The screening is part of the Valencia Film Archive’s cycles, which showcase historical films at Edificio Rialto. This venue, run by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, is dedicated to promoting cinematic heritage, with a special focus on silent cinema and the restoration of classics. Admission is free, as is usual for the film archive’s sessions.
