A meeting between jazz and symphonic music
On 6 March 2027 at 19:00, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra—one of the world’s most acclaimed chamber orchestras—will perform at Sala Iturbi in the Palau de la Música de Valencia alongside saxophonist Branford Marsalis, one of today’s most influential jazz figures. The concert, titled An American in Paris, is part of the symphonic season and explores the dialogue between jazz, symphonic music, and traditional sounds.
Concert programme
The repertoire includes:
- An American in Paris (George Gershwin): A masterpiece of American symphonic music, composed in 1928 and celebrated for its fusion of urban rhythms and orchestration.
- Symphonic Works for Orchestra (Duke Ellington): A symphonic adaptation of some of the jazz legend’s most iconic themes, reorchestrated for large ensemble.
- Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra (Jeff Beal): A contemporary work that highlights the saxophone’s versatility in dialogue with the orchestra.
- Suite Andalucía (Ernesto Lecuona): A suite of Cuban dances that adds rhythmic and melodic contrast to the programme.
The concert is expected to last 1 hour and 45 minutes, without an interval.
