What the masterclass is
The masterclass on actor direction with Carlos Marqués-Marcet is a practical workshop organised by the Valencian Academy of Audiovisual (AVAV) and DAMA (Audiovisual Media Copyright) as part of the 12th International Film Music Congress. According to Palau de la Música, the goal is to share the essential tools a director needs to communicate with professional performers on a film set, from preparation to staging.
Who is leading the workshop
Carlos Marqués-Marcet, a Barcelona-based director, screenwriter, and editor, will lead the session. Trained at Pompeu Fabra University and UCLA in Los Angeles, Marqués-Marcet is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in contemporary Spanish cinema. His debut feature, 10.000 km (2014), earned him the Goya Award for Best New Director, and since then he has directed films such as Tierra firme, Los días que vendrán, and the musical Polvo serán (2024), which focuses on the right to die with dignity. Known for his exploration of human intimacy and interpersonal relationships, he balances his filmmaking career with teaching.
Who it is for
The event is exclusively aimed at professionals in Valencia’s audiovisual sector, according to the organisers. It is not specified whether it is open to students or other industry profiles.
