Bel canto: elegance and vocal virtuosity
Bel canto is an operatic style that flourished in Italy in the early 19th century, characterised by its emphasis on beautiful sound, vocal agility, and expressiveness. Composers such as Bellini (Norma, La sonnambula), Donizetti (Lucia di Lammermoor, L'elisir d'amore), Meyerbeer (Les Huguenots), and Rossini (The Barber of Seville, William Tell) are cornerstones of this repertoire, though the final programme for the concert has yet to be detailed.
Lisette Oropesa, renowned for her impeccable technique and ability to tackle complex roles, has performed these works in some of the world’s most prestigious theatres, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera, and the Teatro Real in Madrid. Her appearance in Valencia offers a rare chance to experience a genre that, while less common than Romantic or Wagnerian repertoire, remains fundamental in the history of opera.
