What is IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia
The IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia is a middle-distance triathlon consisting of three segments: a 1.9 km open-water swim in the Mediterranean, a 90 km cycling route through Sierra Calderona, and a 21.1 km run. Organised by The IRONMAN Group, this event is one of the most prestigious on the international calendar and part of the qualifying circuit for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
Route and features
The swim starts and finishes at Malvarrosa Beach, with a single loop in calm waters. After the first transition (T1) at the IES Isabel de Villena esplanade, participants tackle the cycling segment, which combines fast sections with climbs in Sierra Calderona before returning to the City of Arts and Sciences for the second transition (T2). The run completes the race with an urban route.
Requirements and participation
IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia is open to federated and amateur athletes aged 18 and over. Participants must comply with the organisers' rules, including the use of wetsuits (depending on water temperature) and mandatory helmets for cycling. Registration includes a race bib, timing chip, refreshments, and medical assistance during the event.
Schedule and duration
The race starts at 7:30 AM from Malvarrosa Beach. The cut-off time to complete the course is 8 hours and 30 minutes (until 4:00 PM). Athletes who do not finish each segment within the allotted time will be withdrawn from the competition.
