What’s being performed
«Amalia y el río» is a documentary theatre piece based on real events. The play recreates the life of Antonia 'La Lirina', a resident of Olivenza (Badajoz), on the Extremadura-Portugal border. According to Teatre Patraix, the production explores this historical figure’s experiences through an intimate and territorial narrative, blending dramaturgy and testimony.
Who’s performing
The play is produced by Teatro Guirigai, an Extremaduran company based in Cáceres. Founded in 1979, the group specialises in social and documentary theatre, with productions that address local histories and collective memories. In this edition of the Novembre Dones festival, their piece shares the programme with four other works by companies from Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, and Berlin.
Festival context
«Amalia y el río» is part of the 6th edition of Novembre Dones, a festival now in its sixth year promoting female narratives at Teatre Patraix. The programme, running from 30 October to 29 November, features five plays from different origins, all centred on complex female characters. According to the organisers, the festival aims to "broaden the perspectives that reach the stage" and offer audiences "different languages and sensibilities".
