What the workshop is
The Practical Acting Direction Workshop with Carlos Marqués-Marcet is an intensive session of the 12th International Film Music Congress, organised by the Valencian Academy of Audiovisual Arts (AVAV) in collaboration with DAMA. During the session, selected directors work on scenes from their projects alongside participating actors, focusing on acting direction tools and strategies, from preparation to staging.
Who leads the training
The workshop is led by Carlos Marqués-Marcet, a Barcelona-based director, screenwriter, and editor trained at Pompeu Fabra University and UCLA in Los Angeles. He is known for his debut feature 10.000 km (2014), which won the Goya Award for Best New Director, and films such as Tierra firme, Los días que vendrán, and Polvo serán (2024), a musical about the right to die with dignity. Marqués-Marcet combines his film career with teaching, specialising in the exploration of human intimacy and interpersonal relationships.
Access and requirements
The workshop takes place behind closed doors in Sala Lucrecia Bori at Palau de la Música and is not open to the public. The selection of participants—both directors and actors—and registration management are exclusively handled by AVAV. Access is restricted to those selected by the Academy and authorised personnel for the activity.
Organisation and context
This training is part of the 41st Mostra de Valencia – Cinema del Mediterrani, a festival celebrating Mediterranean cinema. According to Palau de la Música, the session is part of the congress’s professional activities programme, focused on specialised training in music and film.
