Händel in concert version
On 29 April 2027 at 19:30, Iturbi Hall at the Palau de la Música de València premieres Acis y Galatea (HWV 49a), the pastoral masque by Georg Friedrich Händel. Composed in 1718, the work recounts the Ovidian myth of the love between the shepherd Acis and the nymph Galatea, threatened by the cyclops Polifem.
Cast and direction
The Valencian ensemble Capella de Ministrers, specialising in historical music, will perform the work under the direction of Carles Magraner. The vocal cast includes Aurora Peña (Galatea, soprano), Hugo Hymas (Acis, tenor), Santiago Garzón (Polifem, bass), Valerio Contaldo (Damon, tenor), and José Hernández Pastor (Coridon, baritone). Stage direction is by Xavier Albertí, artistic director of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.
The work will be presented in a concert version with scenic elements and will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
