Viridiana (1961) is a film directed by Luis Buñuel, a Spanish-Mexican co-production that tells the story of a novice, Viridiana (Silvia Pinal), whose life changes after visiting her uncle, Don Jaime (Fernando Rey). The film explores themes such as faith, morality, and social conventions, featuring a cast that also includes Francisco Rabal, Margarita Lozano, and Victoria Zinny.
Shot in black and white, the film won the Palme d’Or at the 1961 Cannes Film Festival. Its release in Spain sparked controversy and was censored for years.
