The Edificio Rialto, home of the Valencian Film Archive, will screen NOCTURNO 29, an experimental film directed by Pere Portabella in 1968. This work, structured into 29 segments—as many as the years Francisco Franco had been in power at the time—explores the reality of the Francoist regime through seemingly disconnected stories linked by a common thread.
What’s being screened
NOCTURNO 29 is a feature film known for its avant-garde approach and social critique. Produced by Films 59, the film features a screenplay co-written by Portabella and poet Joan Brossa, with a soundtrack by composer Josep Mª Mestres Quadreny. Though it doesn’t follow a linear narrative, each fragment contributes to a collective reflection on Spain during that era.
