What is Oriente Trío
Oriente Trío is a Peruvian group formed in 2018 by Joaquín Mariátegui (guitar), Jerónimo Morán (double bass) and Juan Francisco Chávez (drums). Their music combines jazz improvisation with the rhythms and sounds of Peruvian folk music, particularly from the Amazon rainforest. The result is a unique sound where Peruvian cumbia merges with contemporary textures, creating both an auditory and visual experience. Their live performance stands out for instrumental skill, energy, and a striking contrast between the group’s humility and the power of the traditions they represent.
Who’s performing
The trio features three of Peru’s most prominent instrumentalists:
- Joaquín Mariátegui: guitar.
- Jerónimo Morán: double bass.
- Juan Francisco Chávez: drums.
All three have developed their own musical language, where improvisation and genre fusion take centre stage.
