What’s being debated
The event Ciencia, política y ciudadanía starts from the central question of Joan Subirats’ book La brecha entre saber y hacer (Anagrama, 2026): should scientists limit themselves to providing evidence, or should they also engage in creating public policies? Subirats examines whether the resources, space, and willingness exist for scientific knowledge to influence political and social debates, and how it can be complemented by citizen participation, public officials, and other stakeholders.
Who’s taking part
- Joan Subirats: Former Minister of Universities (2021–2023) and Professor of Political Science at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). A Doctor in Economic Sciences, his research focuses on governance, democratic innovation, and public policy.
- Daniel Beunza: Lecturer in Social Studies of Finance at Bayes Business School (University of London) and collaborator at the INGENIO centre (CSIC-UPV). His work explores the relationship between finance, technology, and society.
