A story of friendship, time, and choices
On 28 September at 19:30, Cines Lys brings back The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, 2006), the anime directed by Mamoru Hosoda adapting Yasutaka Tsutsui’s novel. Produced by Madhouse, the film won Best Animated Film at Sitges Festival 2006 and has become a genre classic.
The plot
Makoto Konno, a high school student, discovers she can travel back in time by leaping. At first, she uses this ability to avoid minor daily troubles—failing a test, being late for class, or dodging awkward situations. However, she soon realises each leap alters events, impacting her friends Chiaki and Kosuke, with whom she shares her final months before moving to a new school year. The film explores how time, friendship, and decisions shape the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
