Summer Cinema in the Heart of Valencia

The Filmoteca d’Estiu celebrates its 27th edition by bringing open-air cinema to the old Turia riverbed, next to the Palau de la Música. From 6 to 30 August, the cycle «A River of Cinema» will explore how rivers have inspired film, from the poetic realism of L’Atalante (Jean Vigo, 1934) to classics like The African Queen (1951) or Apocalypse Now (1979). Alongside these gems, the «Top Critics & Festivals» cycle will highlight six films directed by women, including Valencian directors Avelina Prat and Elena López Riera.

All screenings start at 22:30 and are shown in original version with Spanish subtitles (VOS). Tickets, priced at €4, are only available online on the official website of the Valencian Filmoteca.

Highlights of the Programme

The river-themed cycle includes titles like The River (Jean Renoir, 1951), where the Ganges takes centre stage, or The Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton, 1955), featuring one of cinema’s most iconic sequences. The new releases section will showcase recent award-winning films from festivals, with a special focus on emerging female directors.
