Art and catastrophe: the Paiporta DANA at the OCCC

The Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània (OCCC) will inaugurate «Paiporta 2024: memòria, fang i solidaritat» on 10 September 2026, a project by Lluci Juan born from her firsthand experience after the flood that devastated Paiporta on 29 October 2024. The exhibition, with free entry, uses mud, traces, and testimonies from the affected area to create works addressing two dimensions: the material and emotional impact of the disaster, and the precarity of the artistic sector.

Two thematic axes

  1. Memory and territory: The pieces capture physical remnants (mud, damaged objects) and altered landscapes, activating collective memory and mourning. Mud, the central material, symbolises both destruction and the possibility of reconstruction.
  2. Cultural precarity: The project highlights the vulnerability of visual artists, especially in peripheral contexts, linking artistic discourse with social reality.

The exhibition does not document the catastrophe literally but proposes a critical reflection on symbolic repair and collective mobilisation. For more information on opening times or accessibility, check the OCCC venue page.
