On 10 September 2026, Cines Lys will screen the re-release of Call Me by Your Name, the film directed by Luca Guadagnino and adapted from André Aciman’s novel. The showing, in original version with Spanish subtitles (OVSE), will begin at 19:30 and last 131 minutes. Tickets are available from €9, and the film is not recommended for under-12s.
The story
Set in the summer of 1983, the film tells the story of Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet), a 17-year-old spending his holidays at his parents’ country house in northern Italy, and Oliver (Armie Hammer), an American assistant to Elio’s father. What starts as a distant coexistence evolves into an intense emotional connection, explored through subtle dialogue, classical music, and idyllic landscapes. The film stands out for its intimate portrayal of first love, identity, and desire, with a visual aesthetic that evokes the nostalgia of the 1980s.
Context and reception
Released in 2017, Call Me by Your Name became a benchmark in contemporary cinema. Timothée Chalamet, then an emerging actor, earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role as Elio, launching his international career. The screenplay, written by James Ivory, won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, while the soundtrack—featuring tracks by Sufjan Stevens—became a key narrative element.
The film also sparked debate for its sensitive portrayal of a homosexual relationship in a rural, conservative setting, as well as its focus on adolescent vulnerability. Its re-release at Cines Lys offers a chance to rediscover it on the big screen.
