A fair with medieval roots
Xàtiva’s Fira d’Agost is one of Spain’s oldest fairs, granted by royal privilege from Jaume I in 1250. Originally a livestock fair, it now blends tradition and modernity with over 100 events across six venues in the city. While animal trading is no longer the focus, activities like the horse pulling contest—a tradition dating back to the 1970s—remain a highlight.
2026 Programme: 14 to 20 August
This year, the fair runs from 14 to 20 August, featuring:
- Nit Jove (15 August): A massive concert turning Xàtiva into the summer’s musical epicentre, showcasing Valencian artists.
- Children’s theatre: A cycle of plays for kids across various city venues.
- Nit de les albaes: Traditional Valencian singing reviving local folklore.
- Urban circuit motorcycle trophy: A classic event for two-wheel enthusiasts.
- Festival de la Cançó: A space dedicated to music in Valencian.
The opening and closing ceremonies are crowd-pulling spectacles, lighting up Xàtiva’s nights.
Pre-events and access
The programme ramps up from 7 August, with preliminary events including concerts and workshops. All activities are free to enter, except for some specific concerts requiring invitations or tickets. There are no age restrictions, though some events may be recommended for specific audiences.
