La Cordà de Paterna: Fire and Tradition on Mayor Street
La Cordà de Paterna is one of the oldest and most iconic festivals in the town, declared a National Tourist Interest Festival. Held in the early hours of 31 August 2026, it marks the grand finale of Paterna’s main festivals with a unique fire and gunpowder spectacle.
A One-of-a-Kind Event in Spain
This is the only tourist-interest festival in the country centred around gunpowder. During La Cordà, over 55,000 rockets are set off on Mayor Street, transformed into a rocket launch zone. Professional and amateur shooters, dressed in protective clothing, launch rockets in a controlled environment, creating a breathtaking display of light and sound.
Origins and Meaning
La Cordà is a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations. Unlike other Valencian fire festivals, such as Las Fallas, this celebration stands out for its participatory nature, allowing the public to experience the thrill of rocket launches up close.
