On 13 October 2026, Edificio Rialto will host a one-off screening of THIS IS NOT A FILM (In film nist, 2011), a work by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. The session, organised by Filmoteca Valenciana, is scheduled for 20:00 and will last 75 minutes. Entry is free, though capacity is limited.
A film shot under exceptional circumstances
THIS IS NOT A FILM is neither a conventional documentary nor a traditional fiction. Shot in Panahi’s apartment during his house arrest in 2010—after being sentenced to six years in prison and a 20-year ban on filmmaking—the film documents a day in the director’s life as he awaits a judicial decision. With the help of filmmaker Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, Panahi uses a mobile phone and a digital camera to record his routine, his reflections on cinema, and the limits of artistic creation under censorship. The film premiered clandestinely at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it was hailed as an urgent political testimony.

The screening at Edificio Rialto is part of Filmoteca Valenciana’s autumn programme, though it does not appear in the official published cycles. No additional screenings of this film have been confirmed in Valencia for 2026, so this event may be the only chance to see it on the big screen in the city this year.
