The figure of Maria Callas: technique and legend
On 30 September 2026 at 18:30, CaixaForum València dedicates a conference to Maria Callas, the Greek soprano who transformed opera with a voice of exceptional versatility and unparalleled dramatic ability. Under the title Maria Callas, la voz que cambió la ópera, journalist and music populariser Pere-Andreu Jariod will analyse how Callas revived forgotten operas by Bellini and Donizetti—such as Norma, Tosca, and La Traviata—and turned them into absolute benchmarks. Her interpretations of I Puritani and Lucia di Lammermoor remain studied today as models of Romantic bel canto.
The conference is part of the Grandes intérpretes del siglo XX cycle, organised by CaixaForum. There will be no live performances, but rather a narrative supported by audiovisual material and anecdotes from her career, from her beginnings in Greece to her rise in the world’s most prestigious theatres, such as La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Practical details
Tickets cost €6 and there is no age restriction. The event will take place in the conference hall of CaixaForum València, located in the inner lane of the former Turia riverbed.
