A journey through Valencian cultural resistance
The exhibition Espais compartits. Culture, thought and resistance focuses on Valencian spaces that, during Francoism, became refuges for cultural and intellectual freedom. Curated based on research by Lara Sánchez Canet, the exhibition takes the Llutxent hermitage, linked to Father Alfons Roig, as its starting point and expands to include other key locations such as Joan Fuster’s house in Sueca and the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Vilafamés, founded by Vicent Aguilera Cerni. These places, far from institutional circuits, acted as windows to the world in a context marked by censorship and repression.
Memory and gender
The exhibition not only revives the figures of intellectuals and artists like Artur Heras, Rosa Mascarell, and Rafael Català, but also incorporates a gender perspective to analyse the role of women in these spaces. Through Alfons Roig’s personal archive and testimonies from figures like Eusebi Moreno and Pep Monter, the exhibition highlights the limitations that conditioned their participation and recognition in a hostile environment.

The exhibition can be visited at the Sala de la Muralla in C.M. Rector Peset from 22 September to 25 October 2026. Entry is free and no prior booking is required. A unique opportunity to reflect on how culture and critical thought found paths of resistance in mid-20th century Valencia.
